About PT-141
Bremelanotide
Research background as published in the scientific literature. Supplied for in-vitro laboratory research only; nothing here is a claim about use in humans or animals.
PT-141 (Bremelanotide) is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide derived from Melanotan II via removal of the C-terminal amide group and cyclisation. It acts as a melanocortin receptor agonist with selectivity for MC3R and MC4R in the central nervous system, with reduced activity at the peripheral MC1R receptor responsible for melanogenesis.
Research has investigated PT-141 in melanocortin system signalling studies, hypothalamic neuropeptide pathway characterisation, and cyclic peptide pharmacology. It represents an important research tool for understanding central melanocortin circuit biology.

- 01MC3R / MC4R Receptor AgonismPT-141 targets melanocortin receptors MC3R and MC4R in the central nervous system — differentiating it from Melanotan II which also activates the peripheral MC1R. Research examines its receptor binding kinetics and downstream CNS signalling effects.
- 02Hypothalamic Pathway StudiesLaboratory research has investigated PT-141's interaction with hypothalamic melanocortin circuits. Studies explore how MC4R activation in the hypothalamus modulates downstream neuropeptide signalling cascades.
- 03Cyclic Peptide Structure ResearchAs a cyclic heptapeptide, PT-141 offers structural stability advantages over linear analogues. Research has examined its structure-activity relationships and metabolic stability compared to its parent compound Melanotan II.
