About HCG
Human Chorionic Gonadotropin
Research background as published in the scientific literature. Supplied for in-vitro laboratory research only; nothing here is a claim about use in humans or animals.
Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) is a dimeric glycoprotein hormone consisting of an alpha subunit (shared with LH, FSH, TSH) and a unique beta subunit that confers biological specificity. It is naturally produced by the syncytiotrophoblast cells of the placenta.
HCG binds to the same receptor as luteinising hormone (LH/CG receptor) and has been extensively studied for its role in reproductive endocrinology research. In laboratory models, it is used as an LH surrogate to stimulate steroidogenesis, and has been the subject of decades of research in male and female reproductive physiology.

- 01LH Receptor ActivationHCG shares the same receptor as luteinising hormone (LH), the LH/CG receptor. Research examines its effects on Leydig cell function in males and granulosa cell function in females, investigating steroidogenesis stimulation pathways.
- 02Testosterone SynthesisIn male reproductive research models, HCG stimulates Leydig cells to produce testosterone via the cAMP/PKA signalling pathway. Studies examine downstream effects on serum testosterone, intratesticular testosterone, and spermatogenesis markers.
- 03Ovarian StimulationIn female reproductive research, HCG acts as an LH surge analogue to trigger oocyte maturation and ovulation. Research has extensively examined its pharmacokinetics and receptor binding in ovarian cell models.
