A statement about the product
A research-use-only material is a chemical reagent supplied for laboratory investigation. It has not been manufactured under the standards that apply to medicines, has not been assessed by any regulator for safety or efficacy, and is not labelled with directions for use in people or animals because it has none. In Australia the Therapeutic Goods Administration regulates goods supplied for therapeutic use; a research reagent is outside that framework precisely because it is not supplied for that purpose.
What it commits the supplier to
- To describe the material factually: compound, form, specification, storage. Nothing about what it does in a body.
- To sell only to buyers who confirm the material is for lawful in-vitro research.
- To keep that confirmation on record against the order.
- To refuse advice on use, dose or outcome, because a research supplier is not qualified to give it and the material is not made for it.
What it asks of the buyer
The confirmation at checkout is the buyer's statement that the material is for laboratory research and not for human or animal use. It is worded once, the same way, on every surface of this site, and an order cannot be placed without it. It exists so that both sides of the transaction have said, in writing, what the material is for.
Why the wording is strict
The phrase is not a shield that permits any use once it has been printed. A supplier who describes therapeutic effects, suggests doses, or markets to people rather than laboratories has stepped outside what the label says regardless of what the label says. That is why the product pages on this site describe what the literature has studied and stop there, and why the guides in this section do the same.
Supplied strictly for in-vitro laboratory research. Not for human or animal use. Not approved by the TGA or any regulator for therapeutic use. Nothing in this guide is advice on use, dose or outcome.
