About Glutathione
L-Glutathione (reduced form, GSH)
Research background as published in the scientific literature. Supplied for in-vitro laboratory research only; nothing here is a claim about use in humans or animals.
Glutathione (L-γ-glutamyl-L-cysteinyl-glycine, GSH) is a tripeptide naturally synthesised in virtually all mammalian cells. It is the most abundant intracellular antioxidant and plays central roles in oxidative stress defence, detoxification, and redox-based signalling.
Research has extensively examined glutathione's role in maintaining cellular redox homeostasis, with studies investigating its depletion in disease states including neurodegenerative diseases, liver disease, and ageing. Intravenous and inhalation research protocols have examined the bioavailability and pharmacokinetics of exogenous glutathione supplementation in various research models.

- 01Reactive Oxygen Species ScavengingGlutathione (GSH) is the cell's primary endogenous antioxidant, scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species. Research examines its role in protecting cellular macromolecules from oxidative damage.
- 02DetoxificationGSH is a substrate for glutathione S-transferases (GSTs), enzymes that conjugate GSH to electrophilic toxins and xenobiotics to facilitate their excretion. Research examines this pathway in liver cell models and metabolic toxicology.
- 03Redox SignallingBeyond antioxidant defence, glutathione participates in redox signalling through protein S-glutathionylation. Research investigates how GSH redox status influences transcription factor activity, enzyme function, and cellular stress responses.
